Teachers' Guide: Unit Conversions

Synopsis: Building on the "Getting Started" lesson (which must be done first), the students complete two worksheets using unit-conversion techniques to determine total energy use (millions of BTUs) and greenhouse-gas emissions (pounds of carbon dioxide).

The exercise deals with the following specific issues and skills:

  • performance of simple arithmetic operations
  • performance of unit conversions
  • analyzing the greenhouse-gas emissions of various types of energy

The students' online version can be found here. A version annotated with tips for teachers is here.
